Spyderco – the thumb hole company – has been around since the 70’s, and while they were originally known for their impressive and widely-loved Tri-Angle Sharpmaker, the Colorado-based company now produces a wide range of unique and dependable knives that you’ll love to carry every day. Since their first folding knife, the C01 Worker, in 1981, Spyderco has defined innovation in the knife industry, paving the way for new concepts with many of their models over the years. From using high-grade (and often hard to find on the mainstream market) materials, Spyderco is beloved by many. Many of their models have an odd design at first sight, but their differences are what make them such a powerful and reliable daily carry. Nearly every one of the Spyderco models that has come through Sawyer River has impressed us and met the checklist as an EDC knife. The US-based company produces high-grade pocket knives un the USA, Japan, Taiwan, Italy, and China, surely having a model that will fit both your style as well as your budget. Spyderco is one of our biggest knife brands here at SRKT – when it comes to selection – so if there is something you are looking for that is not on the website, send us an email, as we may have it in person, but not on the website yet.

The Spyderco Watu, based on the original & traditional knife used by the Chokwe people of Central/Southern Africa. Spyderco released the Chokwe knife as a member of their Ethnic Series of knives and the Watu is the updated version of the original. With the same modified clip point blade, with a hardcore triangular profile, made of super strong CPM 20CV stainless steel, and given a full-flat grind, the Spyderco Watu is a great user knife, as the blade shape makes ripping through tape and boxes a super easy task. The lengthened thumb rest on the blade spine due to the blade profile, and perfectly placed jimping make the Watu one of the most comfortable knives to carry and use throughout the day. The carbon fiber & G-10 laminate handle scales are skeletonized (along with its stainless steel liners), and given a coffin-shape, as was the case with the original Chokwe knife. With the beloved compression lock mechanism, the Watu is ultra-reliable and makes for a safe daily carry, while the classic Spyderco round thumb hole make for easy ambidextrous opening. To sweeten the pot even more, the Watu comes with a reversible wire tip-up pocket clip, a clip style adored by many knife enthusiasts.

The Watu was designed to pay homage to tribes in Africa, and once you own and use one, you’ll feel connected to these ethnicities, as this knife has a genuinely unique design. If you’re looking for a Spyderco knife that bridges the gap between a daily user and a show-off knife, the Watu is for you.

This Watu, C251CFP, comes with a satin finished blade, stainless clip and hardware, and a black carbon fiber handle.
