Pro-Tech Malibu 5201-BLUE – Stonewash CPM-20CV Modified Reverse Tanto Blade – Blue 7075 Aluminum Handle Scales – Stainless Tip-Up Deep Carry Pocket Clip & Hardware – Button Lock Manual Folding Pocket Knife w/ Flipper Tab & Ball Bearings and Protectant Washers | Made in California, USA

Everything that goes into making a Pro-Tech knife happens in California, USA. Originally begun by a former middle school teacher, David Wattenberg, the company now produces a huge selection of high-quality US-made knives and is one of the world leaders in the manufacturing of automatic pocket knives. From their Les George-collaboration SBR autos, to awesome Malibu flippers, to perfected camping fixed blades, Pro-Tech has many sharp things to offer for the everyday knife enthusiast. With minimalistic designs, the knives that come out of Artesia, CA all have incredible action, as their Malibu is known as one of the smoothest button lock flippers on the market, and all of their push button autos have a surprisingly snappy action.

All of Pro-Techs main-line knives are built with reliability and function in mind, and they also often collaborate with many of the knife worlds biggest designers to create highly sought-after custom made pocket knives featuring materials such as Damascus steel, “Mother of Pearl” push buttons, ivory and maple burl handles and more. Innovation is at the core of Pro-Tech’s custom shop, and all of their readily available products have some sort of characteristic that makes them unique. Manufacturing techniques such as CNC machining, laser cutting and wire EDM define the effort that goes into designing and creating each Pro-Tech. Limited runs of even their most production models ensure that quality control is at the core of Pro-Techs mission and we can confidently say that they have sent us a very low percentage of defected products in comparison to some the other brands we proudly carry (not that anybody else has sent us many defective products). At impressive price points, Pro-Tech knives are great for the everyday collector or somebody looking to get into the knife community. If you haven’t had the chance to own a Pro-Tech, now is the time. They often come out with brand new designs and models, so keep an eye out for something from this reliable US-based company that will suit your needs and style.

The Malibu flipper may just be the most beloved knife that Pro-Tech has to offer. Their first and original manual flipper, the Malibu utilizes ball bearings riding on hardened steel washers to create an incredibly smooth opening mechanism that will completely eliminate your need for a second hand. A slight flick of the flipper-tab will have your 3.25” CPM 20CV blade flying out of its handle, ready for use in the blink of an eye. When the work is finished, Pro-Techs incredible button lock system offers a crisp breaking detent, and a push of the button allows your blade to fall back into place, often with easy drop-shut action. There’s a reason why the Malibu is one of the most sought-after button lock flippers on the market, as it still holds up as one of the smoothest and certainly one of the most enjoyable knives to fidget with.

As mentioned before, the Maibus come equipped with CPM-20CV steel, often related to Bohler’s M390 super-steel. High edge-retention and resistance to corrosion define this steel, as your knife is likely to stay sharp for much longer than you could ever expect. It may be a bit harder to sharpen than most steels, but it has been said that 20CV is a less-tough steel than others such as M390. The Pro-Tech Malibu comes with either a modified reverse tanto shaped blade, or the widely-loved Wharncliffe style blade, and comes finished with a high-flat grind that gives the edge incredible slicing geometry.

Perfectly contoured, yet simple, 7075 aluminum handles give the Malibu great durability and increase its functionality. An integrated finger groove allows for supreme comfort, and the semi-open back design allows for easy cleaning and doubles as extra grip during use. At first glance, the handle on the Malibu seems extremely basic, but inconspicuous grooving and very-slight curves around the handle allow the knife to fit incredibly well in even the biggest of hands. To top off the Malibu, Pro-Tech has opted to outfit them with tip-up deep carry pocket clips, allowing for a discreet and comfortable everyday carry. If you haven’t had the chance to handle or own a Pro-Tech Malibu, or are reluctant to, jump on the bandwagon while there is still room; it’s been growing now for a couple of years.

This specific model Malibu has blue anodized aluminum handle scales, the same bright and vibrant blue that Pro-Tech uses with a number of their models. The 20CV blade is shaped reverse tanto and comes with a gorgeous stonewash finish. All hardware, including the pocket clip, screws, and push button are finished with a standard stainless. If you’re looking for a little more flair than the base model Malibu, but don’t want to look in the direction of Pro-Techs custom shop, the 5201-BLUE is a great choice for you.

This is a manual flipper pocket knife with a 3.25” blade and no safety lock. Please research and be aware of your local knife laws before purchasing and carrying a pocket knife. SRKT is an authorized dealer of Pro-Tech products.
