The Microtech Troodon is often seen as a slightly upgraded UTX-85. With very similar dimensions, the Troodon differs in that the handle chassis is a bit thinner and the tinniest-bit wider. Ever-so-slightly more lightweight, the Troodon can be easier to carry and feels a little more inauspicious in your pocket. The handle is also machined, and given ridging along the face and clip sides of the chassis allowing for improved grip and comfortability in your hand. Lastly, the handle is more contoured than the base line Ultratech/UTX-85 models, giving it more personality and less “blockiness” while offering more places for your finger to rest during use, while the thumb slide is stull ultra-textured for easy deployment in and out. To make it simple: the Troodon series by Microtech looks a bit more “tactical” and rugged than their main-line knives.

Featuring Microtechs signature smooth and snappy OTF action, something about the internals of the Troodon actually make its action a bit smoother than its X-85 counterpart. The Troodon may be a bit more pricey than most other similar sized Microtech OTF’s, but it certainly is worth the upcharge, as there is clearly more attention to detail in the design and manufacturing of the Troodon series. If you need a standard sized, lightweight OTF knife, that’s ready to go in less than a blink of an eye, look towards the Microtech Troodon. It’s one of our personal favorite OTF models in the world. The Troodons, along with most-to-all of MT’s OTFS, come with a strong tip-down pocket clip as well as a ball-tip glass breaker.

This Microtech Troodon can do just about anything. The blade, single edged and partially serrated, is just about as practical as they come, while still being relatively easy to resharpen as opposed to a tanto edge. Made of Bohler M390 steel, you may never have to sharpen this guy anyways. On top of that, it’s finished with a standard stonewash, which helps hide blemishes and looks a bit less scary to your nervous family members. To give it a bit of a tactical look, the handle is finished with Microtechs signature olive drab green hard-coat anodization. The tip-down pocket clip and hardware are a standard blasted.
