Microtech Signature Series Hellhound UTX-85 T/E OTF Auto 719-1TS – Black Coated Two-Toned Premium Steel Hell Hound Tanto Edge Blade Blade – Black Mil-Spec Hard Coated 6061-T6 Aluminum Handle Chassis w/ Face-Side Marfione Dagger Logo – Tactical Black Tip-Down Pocket Clip & Hardware – Thumb Slide Double-Action Out the Front Automatic | Made in USA

Microtech – a leading brand in pocket knives, especially double-action out the fronts, as well as side opening automatics – was founded in Vero Beach, Florida in 1994 and now runs operations out of Pennsylvania and North Carolina. Being a 100% US-made brand, Microtech prides itself on using high quality materials combined with high level craftsmanship and attention to detail in order to provide pocket knives that make lifelong impressions. There is a reason that Microtech knives is one of the highest selling OTF knife brands in the world, as their incredibly smooth signature double-action OTF mechanism, high-grade steel and handle materials, use of their own proprietary internals and hardware, and large selection of handle/blade color combos and blade styles come together to create a wide array of impressive pocket knives that will suit all of your slicing needs, while likely having a model that suits your style. Whether you’re in the market for your first ever OTF knife, or are looking to add to your collection, you absolutely cannot go wrong with getting yourself a new Microtech.

If the Microtech Ultratech is just a bit too big for you for practical daily use, the UTX-85 is one of our biggest sellers, as it shrinks the standard UT down by 15%, hence the name “X-85”, making it a bit easier to carry and a little lighter without sacrificing the incredible quality that comes with owning a Microtech OTF. Easier to conceal in your hand while closed, the 85 still comes with six sets of jimping and the classic MT rough-thumb slide, but can actually be a bit easier to operate at times, as the smaller dimensions allow for less tension during firing. We’ve found that the UTX-85 has the highest chance of coming in with ultra-smooth yet snappy perfected action. Most characteristics of the 85's are identical to the Ultratech, including most internals, yet they are seen as a comfortable daily carry by many due to the smaller size. If you’re the type of person that carries and uses a knife on a daily basis, the UTX-85 may be perfect, as it can go from closed up in your pocket to open and ready to use in an instant. With a built in safety mechanism, which stops the blade from firing into/through anything, and internal designs that allow the firing spring to stay in a rested and non-tense position in both open and closed positions, the X-85 is surprisingly safe and is made to last you a lifetime and more. Be prepared to find yourself carrying your Microtech UTX-85 more than you intended, as they bridge the gap between collectability and practicality.

Standard X-85s come equipped with a 6061-T6 aircraft-grade aluminum handle chassis, extremely lightweight and pretty basic-shaped, while still having slight contouring so it sits comfortably in your hand. Six total sets of jimping on both spine sides of the handle add to the already superb grippability of the knife, and give you more leverage over the knife while completing your cutting tasks. This is furthered by the aggressively textured thumb slide, another spot that your thumb will naturally find itself during use.

With multiple blade shape options, the UTX-85 comes in around 7.3” in total length with a roughly 3” blade, plus/minus a slight bit depending on blade style. Weighing in at 3 oz., you’ll be shocked at the balance this knife boasts in both open and closed positions. Lastly, the Microtech X-85s come outfitted with a strong tip-down stainless steel pocket clip that is sure to keep your knife secured to your pocket in nearly any circumstance. A ball-tip glass breaker on the butt gives you extra peace of mind when considering emergency situations. While the full-size Microtech Ultratech may be one of the most legendary and popular OTF’s in the world, the UTX-85 is more than comparable, and is often seen as a bit more comfortable of a daily carry.

If you know Microtech, you probably know about their Hellhound blade style. A signature of Sean Marfione, the Hellhound blade has the functionality of a tanto edged blade, while sporting a whole lot of extra flair. First off, the blade has aggressive jimping on the spine, allowing for even more improved leverage during use. Just above the jimping, the spine-side finishes off with an almost clip-point blade style, this area being non-sharp. Beneath the jimping, the blade is given a thin fuller running the length of the jimping, and beneath that is a set of holes also running the same length. If this is your first time seeing the Hellhound, we’re glad you’re here! If not, you know just how awesome these guys are. If you don’t have one yet, snag one. If you do have one, get another.

This model Signature Series UTX-85 Hellhound has a two-toned blade, as the bevels, including the spine side non-sharpened bevels, are coated black, while the rest of the blade is kept a more of a standard blasted finish. In certain lights, however, this area sort of turns a darker shade (maybe that is just my bad eyes).

The 6061-T6 aluminum handle chassis is also finished black, with the Marfione dagger logo on the face. The tip-down pocket clip and hardware are all finished black as well, making this the go-to tactical UTX-85 for EDC.

This is an out the front automatic pocket knife with a 3” blade and no safety. Please research and be aware of your local knife laws before purchasing and carrying a pocket knife. SRKT is an authorized dealer of Microtech products.
